Estate Planning
1. Will
For many people, the will may be the first thing you think about when putting together an estate plan. This document transfers what you own to the people you want to receive those items after your passing. It should also state desires for who will take care of any young children or pets you have in your care.
2. Trust
As a lesser-known document, trusts allow for planning during your lifetime, through the aging process, and, much like a will, the resolution of your assets after your death. Trusts offer clients much greater control and freedom to carry out their wishes than standard estate planning documents, such as a will. There are multiple types of trusts that are used based upon your unique situation that offer benefits both now as well as in your future planning.

Attorney
A power of attorney grants someone permission to make decisions on your behalf for your benefit. This is an essential document for long-term planning. But, there are complex issues that arise when giving this type of authority that could affect your present financial and physical decisions as well as future decisions for those same areas. 4. Advance Directive
for Health Care
No one likes to talk about the end of life, but occasions arise that call for difficult choices. In those times, you would like to know that you did all that you could to comfort and care for your family by making your wishes as clear as possible. An Advance Directive for Health Care, also known as a “living will” or “health care proxy,” takes the burden of such difficult decisions off of family members and gives them comfort, knowing you have already addressed these matters for them. We work with our clients to prepare this document as part of the estate planning process.

Greg C. Brown is a Wiregrass area native, and a graduate of Rehobeth High School. While working as a substitute teacher in the Houston County, Alabama School System and as an assistant football coach at Rehobeth High School, Greg attended Troy University for undergraduate studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
